Be Truthful For Once and Apologize to Kwarans, ALGON Berates Lai Mohammed

Lai Mohammed Should Own Up, Be Truthful For Once and Apologize to Kwarans –ALGON

The leadership of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has lend his voice to the alleged campaign fund’s mismanagement said to be perpetrated by the Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, asking him to open up truthfully and apologize to the party stakeholders and Kwarans.

In a statement signed by the state chapter’s Chairman of ALGON, Prince Jide Ashonibare, he posited that embezzling millions of naira meant to be campaign fund is an untoward attitude and demeaning of a supposed political leader.

He said if the minister was given money for the purpose of campaign by friends of Kwarans, he ought to make account of such to the then party flag-bearer (now the governor) and to the party stakeholders. He said that such allegation that sought to indict the minister more was unbecoming of a man of Alhaji Lai Mohammed status.

ALGON boss added that the minister’s ought to give good account of himself as a democrat because he is expected to raise the banner of probity and accountability, to quell the allegation levied against him rather than making frivolous claims.

“We were all on ground to know who did what during the elections, we know the enormity of work and resources put into winning the elections, we would not support any individual whose only interest was to corner every available money donated for the purpose,” he stated.

He said the minister should be pitied, because he is digging his ‘political grave’ trying to rubbishing the governor, who is a performer. Rather than aligning with him (the governor) to see how best the present administration can improve the lives of our people in the state, he is busy polarising the party and commissioning factional secretariat of the party.

He said further in the statement that “If Lai Mohammed is claiming to have personally raised money to finance APC in Kwara State during the last general elections or he supported and or financed the campaign of any candidate during the said elections, it an odious lie that is laughable.

“Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq financed his campaign and that of many other candidates at different levels; he has rightly exposed the inglorious roles he played and his mismanagement of money generated from the ‘friends of Kwara’ for the 2019 general elections.

“He must be told in clear terms that he can’t run away from being accountable to stakeholders of the party and Kwarans.”

ALGON chief averred that what the state desires most presently is decent politics, good governance and accountability as exemplified by the governor, adding that “O-to-ge was the struggle of the people and nobody should claim undue credit for it.”
