Hajia Maryam Sadiq commissions the renovated and equipped newborn corner and labour at PHC Bode saadu Moro LGA

The wife of the distinguished Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar, representing Kwara North Senatorial District, Hajia Maryam Sadiq Umar has on Sunday, 3rd October, 2021 commissioned the newly renovated Newborn corner and labour ward at Prinary Healthcare Center, Bode-Saadu.

In her goodwill message at the handling over ceremony she stated that newborn health plays an important role in this era of sustainable development goals (SDGs). For every newborn, the day of birth and the first 28th days are the most vulnerable time for any child’s survival, health and wellbeing. Therefore, we must put all efforts required to achieve significant reduction in preventable deaths and having healthy babies.

“Based on this, we cannot overemphasize the importance of having effective interventions targeted at accelerating newborn survival which would translate into having healthier babies that would significantly reduce death in under five children. It is only through these that we can have a productive and healthy society and for us to achieve this means provision and accessibility to quality care for all pregnant women during antenatal and postnatal period and with focus on safe labour and delivery as well as immediate care for new babies.” She said.

In light of this, we have embarked on this project of renovating our newborn corner and labour ward and procurement of maternal and newborn commodities since last year and we are here again to improve and strengthen the facility with more equipment and capacity training and mentorship programs for our nurses, midwives, community extension workers and community volunteers as well as providing quality care. Hajia Maryam added.

She, however, emphasized that improving the well being of mothers, infants and children is an important public health goal that should concern every stakeholder in our country, because the well-being of newborns determines the health of the next generation.
