Save a girl initiative holds sexual and Reproductive health awareness campaign for secondary school girls in ijede
A non-governmental organization, Save A Girl Initiative, on Tuesday, organized an awareness talk on sexual and reproductive health for female students of Luwasa Junior Secondary School in Ijede, Ikorodu, Lagos.The project themed: “Pad A Girl: Cultivating a Healthy Lifestyle” was held in partnership with Ijede Local Council Development Area.Speaking at the event, the group’s Executive Director, Comfort Olafare noted that the intervention was prompted by the need to educate young girls on their sexual and reproductive health.“We understand the importance of health especially for young girls. That’s why we put together this project in line with the mission of Save A Girl Initiative to nurture girls for self actualization. Most of them are misinformed on the use of sanitary pads which ideally shouldn’t last more than 8 hours,” she said.The Executive Chairman of Ijede LCDA, Hon. Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba who was the special guest, while addressing the elated students, urged them to prioritize their personal hygiene especially during menstruation.Gbadebo-Alogba advised them to shun improper and unhealthy use of sanitary pads, citing the possibility of contracting deadly diseases through such harmful acts. The program also featured distribution of 100 sanitary pads to the female students by the council boss and the school’s vice principal.
