KWSG Launches Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security
•To implement UN resolution 1325
The Kwara State Government has launched the state Action Plan Document on Women, peace and Security for the implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325 today.
The state Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hon. Mopelola Abdulmaliq-Bashir, while delivering her speech at the occasion,
stated that the implementation of the document will encourage women participation in all peace and security process and management.
“it is to allow women play their rightful roles within national and international armed conflict management mechanism and also to assist government in working out policies on peace and security”, she said.
Abdulmaliq-Bashir enjoined everyone to join hands with the state government to ensure effective implementation of the launched policy document so as to make it effective as expected.
She appreciated the state governor, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq and The First Lady, Ambassador Dr Olufolake Abdulrazaq, for their support towards the betterment of the life of women and girl child in the state.
Also, she also appreciated the partnership of Action Aid Nigeria and Global Affairs Canada facilitated by Olive Community Development Initiative (OCDI) for their support to make the policy document a reality.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs, Hajia Afusat Nike Ibrahim while delivering her welcome address, expressed her pleasure for being part of the launching programme, “it is a giant stride in the state efforts towards women development” she said.
Ibrahim asserted that the resolution is to encourage women participation in all peace making process, discourage all forms of violence against women and recognize the roles of women in all spectrum of development.
Also speaking at the event was the CEO Olive Community Development Initiative (OCDI), Mrs Oluwatomi Adeleke, she stated that the SAP cannot be implemented without necessary factors such as sustained political will, appropriate program design, adequate resources, effective coordination, joint implementation and participation of other MDAs in the state, Civil Society inclusion and Systematic Monitoring and Evaluation.
The inauguration of the SAP implementation committee was carried out at the event with the Commissioner for Women Affairs as the Chairperson, the Permanent Secretary, Director Women, Representatives from; Ministry of Communications, Ministry of Planning, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Environment, State Security Agencies and Civil Society Organisations among others as members of the implementation committee.
The Kwara State Action Plan Document was launched on behalf of His Excellency and First Lady, by The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Women Affairs.
