2023: Election is not do-or-die affairs, Stop heating the polity, KPMO warns politician

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the Kwara Progressive Media Organization (KPMO) has warned against heating the polity through unsavory actions of some opposition elements in the State.

KPMO gave the warning in a statement signed by its convener, Usman Lade in Ilorin the Kwara State Capital. The socio-political organization in its statement appealed to political leaders and their followers to play politics with all principles of democracy.

While urging politicians not to see the forthcoming general elections “as a matter of do-or-die”, KPMO tasked politicians and their followers not to conduct themselves in a manner that may cause violence in the state.

Usman Lade has also called on the police and other security agencies to arrest and prosecute any politician or individual found culpable of engaging in any act capable of breaching the peace of the state.

The era of political violence is long gone in the state since the assumption of Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq as Governor of Kwara State in 2019. We don’t want to go back to the bad old days, as such, we don’t want anybody under the guise of political campaigns to create any crisis in the state.

The statement further commended the Governor of the State for upholding the peace and tranquillity that the state is known for despite the plot by some despicable element geared towards creating unrest in the state through the spreading of misinformation, fake news, and other libelous content, he said.
