Ministry of works gives update on Tanker flyover

The Kwara State Ministry of Works and Transport has put in place measures that would ease the traffic along Tanke axis where the construction of Babatunde Idiagbon flyover is ongoing.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engr Rotimi Suleiman Iliasu assures Kwarans of timely completion of the project.

According to the Commissioner, “we are trying to hasten up the work, making sure that we still do things quality wise but also reduce the time we spend on the work as much as possible. But, in the interim, we’ll be using one side of the flyover for workspace, while people will be allowed to use the other side. A barrier is also being erected between the workspace and the section of the road open for commuters. This for safety reasons.”

Engr Iliasu added that “the side where people can drive will always be open between 6am and 10am for traffic for people driving towards University of Ilorin; however, if you’re coming back from Unilorin at that particular time, you’ll have to use the alternatives route.

“Similarly, towards evening period between 3:30pm and 6pm, the same spot will be open for traffic for those coming from University of Ilorin, while people going to University of Ilorin would use the alternative route. The government regrets whatever inconveniences to the people within this period.”

Safety equipment has been erected, the site will be cordoned out and speed limits will be put in place with personnel on ground to manage people as they move along the site. Please do not attempt to outsmart the flaggers for your own safety. Kindly adhere strictly to the flaggers’ instructions to avoid any form of mishap.

The Commissioners for Works and Transport, Engr. Suleiman Rotimi Iliasu, once again appeal to residents and road users to be patient and also drive with total concentration to prevent avoidable mishap.

“Our goal is to improve the city and make your travel experience better”
