Amidst Kwara Hotel Imbroglio, Kwara Gov Set to Demolish APC Chieftain, Mashood Mustapha property in ilorin
The AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq-led Kwara state government is set to demolish the property of a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Hon. Mashood Mustapha (MM) over political/business differences.
MM’s property was marked for demolition today, Monday, 13th May 2024. The demolition notice placed within and outside the property located along Zulu Gambari Road implies that the demolition will take place at any moment.
Recall that Mashood Mustapha had earlier accused Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of planning to demolish his properties in Kwara if he dared to drag the government to Court over its breach of contract on Kwara Hotels’ concession.
In an open letter that has now gone viral, MM said “I learnt you said you will use the government instrumentality to deal with me. I am waiting for you. For the records, you planned to demolish my properties in Kwara. I have been investing in my dear state since 1989 and I won’t stop. I have investments worth billions of naira in Kwara and employed many of our people. Go ahead and carry out your threat, roll out your bulldozer, I am waiting. You are not God. Don’t forget the stories of David and Goliath, and Moses and Pharaoh. God takes care of the defenceless.”
The move by the Kwara State Government may have lent credence to the accusation made against the governor by Mashood Mustapha.
This medium reached out to Hon. MM’s Head of Media and Public Relations, Dr. Opeyemi Aregbesola to get the reaction of Crystal Group on the proposed demolition. She said, “This is not unexpected. If you have been following the sequence of events since the Kwara Hotels concession issue started, you would have noticed that Hon. Mashood Mustapha mentioned that plans were in the offing to demolish his properties in Kwara.
“How the government handled the issue of the Kwara Hotels concession was in flagrant disregard for the Kwara State Procurement Law and Crystal Group has every right to seek redress in a Court of competent jurisdiction. So, proceeding to demolish his property on that basis is nothing but political witch-hunting.”
“Crystal Group will not rest until the right thing is done. Awarding a project valued at N3 billion for N17.8 billion is unacceptable. The resources of Kwara state must be judiciously utilized for the benefit of Kwarans,” she added.
