Former NBC DG Mallam Ishaq Modibbo Kawu Meets with ASKOMP Members
Former Director General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Mallam Ishaq Modibbo Kawu, Host members of the Association of Online Media Practitioners (ASKOMP) to an Iftar Dinner at his GRA residence yesterday in a discussion centered on the state of the media industry, press freedom, and the evolving challenges in the digital space.
The meeting, which brought together prominent online media practitioners, addressed key issues such as media regulation, journalistic ethics, and the role of digital platforms in shaping public discourse. Mallam Kawu, known for his extensive experience in broadcasting and media regulation, shared insights on the future of journalism, the importance of professional ethics, and the need for continuous training in the industry.
During the engagement, ASKOMP members raised concerns about press freedom, the regulation of digital media, and the responsibilities of journalists in the age of misinformation. Mallam Kawu emphasized the importance of striking a balance between regulation and freedom of expression, noting that while responsible journalism is crucial, excessive government control could hinder democratic discourse.
The discussion also touched on the rapid changes in media consumption, with a focus on how online platforms have reshaped the landscape. Participants agreed on the need for media practitioners to embrace innovation, uphold journalistic integrity, and work together to strengthen the profession.
He also emphasized that giving politicians award as a media House is a joke and also stated that training and retraining is very important to every journalists especially those of you in Digital space.
