Senator Mustapha Facilitates multi-million solar power system for Ilorin central mosque
The lawmaker representing Kwara Central and the Turaki of Ilorin Emirate, Senator Saliu Mustapha, has facilitated the installation of a multi-million naira solar-powered mini-grid system at the Ilorin Central Jum’ah Mosque. The project also covers parts of the Emir’s Palace and serves the wider Muslim community.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Alhaji Sheu Gafar, CON, the mosque committee explained that the facilitation followed an earlier request made during its annual BOT meeting last year. It added that Senator Mustapha has fulfilled his pledge, further demonstrating his commitment to the spiritual and cultural heritage of the Ilorin Emirate.
According to the committee, the intervention will enable the mosque to operate almost fully on clean and renewable energy (excluding the ACs), thereby reducing monthly energy costs. It added that, for the first time, the mosque will enjoy uninterrupted power supply, remaining illuminated day and night and allowing residents, visitors, and tourists to behold the historic edifice in its full glory.
The statement further recalled that this milestone comes shortly after the mosque received a ₦1 billion pledge from a donor for the construction of a 250-bed ultramodern hostel at the University of Ilorin. Both projects, it noted, align with the vision of the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR, for a self-sustaining Central Mosque that stands as a sanctuary of worship and a symbol of unity.
On behalf of the Emir, the committee expressed profound gratitude to Senator Saliu Mustapha and to the Federal Government of Nigeria, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for the historic intervention.
