2027; Governorship Should be Open to all Qualified Kwarans, Towoju

Former Kwara State Commissioner for Communications, Hon. Olabode George Towoju, has opposed calls to zone the 2027 governorship seat to Kwara North, describing the demand as undemocratic and short-sighted.

Speaking with journalists, the Kwara South political leader insisted that the governorship should be open to all qualified Kwarans, regardless of regional origin, stressing that democracy is based on fairness and equal rights.

Towoju also criticized some members of the Kwara State House of Assembly for publicly endorsing aspirants ahead of the elections, saying lawmakers should focus on their legislative duties rather than engage in early political campaigns.

He condemned the alleged blockage of a ₦200 million project by a local government chairman, calling it anti-development, and urged the affected community to demand accountability from their leaders.

Reflecting on the 2019 Òtògé Movement, Towoju warned against assuming that past political dynamics would automatically repeat in 2027, emphasizing that the people’s will must prevail.

He dismissed claims that aspirants need the governor’s approval before contesting elections, noting that party rules allow even a sitting governor to be disciplined if necessary.

Towoju added that some politicians misuse the governor’s name for personal gain.
While commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for their leadership and developmental efforts.

Towoju criticized Kwara South lawmakers over insecurity and warned that poor performance could cost them their seats in 2027.

He confirmed that consultations ahead of the 2027 elections are ongoing and hinted at his own interest, while pledging to support any credible candidate committed to serving all Kwarans.
