May Day:PDP Felicitates Kwara Workers, Faults AbdulRazaq’s Policies, Promises Better welfare

The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has congratulated workers across the state on the occasion of the 2026 Workers’ Day, commending their resilience and dedication despite prevailing economic challenges.

In a statement issued on Friday by the State Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, the party noted that workers in the state marked this year’s May Day under difficult conditions, which it attributed to what it described as policy somersaults of the Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq-led administration.

The PDP lamented that Kwara workers have continued to face poor remuneration, inadequate welfare packages, and promotions without corresponding financial benefits, stressing that these challenges have significantly reduced their standard of living. It further observed that the rising cost of living, driven in part by increased pump prices of petroleum products, has worsened the burden on workers, particularly in the area of transportation.

The party said the situation in Kwara stands in stark contrast to developments in other states, citing examples such as Oyo and Ogun where governments have introduced transport allowances and other measures to cushion the impact of economic hardship on workers. It also pointed to Lagos State, where Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu recently approved a N50,000 relief package for workers, as a demonstration of responsive and worker-friendly governance—an approach it said is lacking in Kwara.

It also raised concerns over the security situation in parts of the state, noting that many workers, especially those in rural areas, are exposed to risks while carrying out their duties. According to the PDP, the lack of adequate workplace safety measures has further compounded the challenges faced by the workforce.

While expressing solidarity with workers, the party assured that a PDP-led government would prioritize their welfare and restore dignity to labour. It promised that issues such as low wages, unpaid financial benefits tied to promotions, and general neglect of workers’ welfare would be addressed if the party is returned to power in future elections.

The PDP urged workers to remain hopeful and steadfast, assuring them that their sacrifices would not go unrecognized.
