Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq: The prolific Genius Behind the Development of Education sector in Kwara State.
By: Hon. Sulaimon Lekan Gadaff.
Education as a process of facilitating learning and impacting knowledge is regarded as the best legacy one can give to offspring’s but over the years in Kwara state, the legacy was left with little or no improvement until an iconic man of hope – Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq came on board before the holistic transformation of the sector began to show up.
Education in Kwara state was a neglected sector despite being the bedrock of development resulting in myriads of problems facing the sector such as poor funding which produce poor educational infrastructures, dilapidated classrooms, lack of technology driven teaching aids (projectors, Computers, laboratories and libraries) that subscribed to the recent happening, paucity of quality teachers and poor/polluted learning environment.
However, since inception of this administration, the sector has obviously been witnessing positive changes with massive development as part of His Excellency, Mallam Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq commitment toward making Kwara a more productive state became second to none.
Couple of months ago, the Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq led APC administration flagged off massive infrastructural projects across 600 schools in the state, a worthwhile idea born out of the zeal to further strengthen the capacity of our school children with a suitable environment to strive academically.
The project included statewide rehabilitation of schools, construction of new classrooms, the establishment of water sanitation and hygiene (WASH) facilities, development of information and communication technology(ICT), training and retraining of teachers among others.
Meanwhile, the repossession of the lost glory was achieved via strategic planning and payment of counter funds.
The appointment of Professor Abdulraheem Sheu Adaramaja an erudite, a strategic planner, a varsity don, and a genius from Asa local government as chairman Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board to oversee the affairs of the commission in the state further complement the agenda of the governor.
His Excellency, Mallam Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, is doing well No doubt!
Good to say, Kwara state is in the hand of a capable, resourceful and productive leader, this attested to the recent teacher’s recruitment exercise which was conducted meritoriously using intellectual capacity, paper qualifications and other important criteria as topmost priority for employment, as against the who-know-who system.
As a necessary step, the governor also approved promotion of teachers in the state, and consequently approved the payment of salaries arrears. The step was timely as the agitations of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) in the state on promotion and other benefits of the teachers was diplomatically solved within the table. Practically, Kwara is working for all.
However, it’s a new dawn here in Kwara as the state has now become a pacesetter from which other states across the federation learn genuine leadership and people-oriented governance cum polity.
Conclusively, Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq is changing the narrative to better as he embarks on a journey to drastically transform the education sector in Kwara state as it relates to the popular saying of Ijoba mekunu … Iselo…
