One Kwara Agenda Takes Campaign to ASKOMP

The One Kwara Agenda, has said its driven force and motivation is to foster unity and peaceful coexistence among residents of Kwara State.

The group, led by Convener Comrade Femi Akinade Adetola, who made this declaration on Saturday said the civic advocacy group is seeking to combat what it describes as a growing polarization along ethnic lines.

Speaking at a meeting with the Association of the Kwara Online Media Practitioners (ASKOMP), Comrade Adetola expressed concern that the state’s traditional values of tolerance and mutual respect were being eroded.

“We live in an environment whereby nobody wants to know where you are coming from, who you are, how much you have in your pocket, or which religion you are doing, Adetola said, while recounting his own personal experience of finding shelter with a family from a different background.

Adetola further described the group as “development advocates and solutions activists, clarifying that they are not a political party but a civil advocacy group focused on civic engagement of our people. We believe that a united Kwara that builds everybody together and builds bridges is the foundation for all forms of development, whether economic, social, or otherwise”.

On his part, Vice Convener of the group, Comrade Patrick Adewumi highlighted the identity crisis Kwara faces among other Nigerian states, noting that due to its diverse ethnic makeup, Kwara is often not fully embraced as a northern or southern state.

The group thereby solicited a strategic partnership with online media practitioners to help promote a narrative of Kwara as an embodiment of talent, of ideas, progressive ideas,

In his response, Shola Salihu Taofeeq, the Chairman of ASKOMP, assured the group that the association’s members are committed to being objective and apolitical in their approach.

He welcomed the One Kwara Agenda to the association’s secretariat, pledging to avail the necessary support and collaborations needed for them to excel in their mission.
